You want to cross it. That fine line between conventional and risky, between bold and ordinary. The OFFTA is all about crossing it and pushing the limits with you is what makes it worthwhile.
Starting May 24th through June 2nd, the OFFTA live-arts transforms Montreal into an artist’s haven.
The seventh edition of the festival is a series of theatre, dance, conceptual experimentations, installations, a punk operetta and much more: name it, OFFTA’s got it.
Created in 2007 and running parallel to the world-renowned, Festival TransAmériques; the OFFTA fuels young creators through discipline-bending, experimental, and risk taking creations. The lineup this year testifies: these young artists are not afraid of deconstructing and subverting the traditional conventions of their respective disciplines
The festival starts off with a mysterious bus ride to a secret location: secrets will be revealed to a lucky few. As the festivities unfolds, the OFFTA will continue to unveil performances from choreographers, directors, interpreter and first-time creators alike.
There will be visceral poetic dances as well as theatrical laboratories exploring everything from history and politics, to the party-filled streets of Montreal. The variations of performances will twist traditional concepts of the viewer, the viewed, and the purpose of performance. Expect moments of uncontrollable laughter and others of extreme tenderness.
A wild night of dancing and mingling with eclectic roster of artists is on the menu: opening party on May 24th’s, location will soon be announced: be there or be square.
The festival concludes with a musical and party-performances that will take audiences to unprecedented places.
Hint: a shakespearean influenced punk operetta laboratory.
Be on the lookout: there will be many free events, functions and installations in the Goethe Institute, the Grande Bibliothèque’s auditorium and affiliated theatres.[box type=”note”]Special tip of the hat to the OFFTA crew who proceeded with their full program despite a last minute loss of funding.
